Heft Release III – Emily Edelman
25 works from the series ‘Facility’ by Emily Edelman will be released tomorrow, July 23rd at noon EST.
Drawing from her background in typography and algorithmic art, Emily Edelman explores the creation of new systems of asemic writing and the potential of strict formal constraints through form and repetition within her generative art practice.

‘Facility #1‘, on view at the gallery
In ‘Facility’, she translates her own handwritten alphabet into coded algorithms that then generate distinct visual inquiries. The final manifestation of each piece is a pen-plotted drawing made from a corresponding generative output, bringing the lines full circle: from handheld pen, to computer, to computer-held pen that acts as the hand. If the starting point is handwriting and the end result is pen on paper, are these algorithmically created artwork “handmade.”
