Gretchen Andrew's Solo Show

New solo show opening tomorrow!
Wed, May 14th at Heft:

GRETCHEN ANDREW
Facetune Portraits: Universal Beauty

Opens May 14, 6 - 9pm @ 300 Broome Street

In Gretchen Andrew’s new series of Facetune Portraits, she uses custom robotics to scribe the popular AI-driven beauty filters of social media into oil paintings derived from images of quintessential beauty. Normally, on TikTok and via Zoom’s “touch up” feature, these visual modifications occur seamlessly and invisibly. By making this process visible, Facetune Portraits reveals the messy co-existence we have with our digital selves.

Come celebrate these 15 new paintings on an evening without algorithms at Heft. Formal attire and gowns encouraged – with UNIVERSAL BEAUTY sashes ready for your photo on our facetune-free stage : )

The inaugural show at Heft, presenting 17 works

This show was about what we call reality today – and how this blurs under the influence of things in our world that are hard to pin down: political rhetoric, digital manipulation, celebrity influence, energy and spirit, falsehoods aka alternative facts.

The artists in this exhibition have discovered new ways of observing and representing this multifaceted reality that we too often overlook, creating new visual vocabularies using the tools of our time – algorithms, artificial intelligence, and other systems.

Most works are

sold – see the exhibition catalog and find the remaining works here:

The exhibition opening welcomed hundreds of artists, collectors, and neighbors at Heft’s new space at 300 Broome Street in NYC. See photos from the event on our Moments site, along with the first Conversations night featuring seven artists from the show in rapid conversation with founder + director Adam Heft Berninger.

Save the Date: June 11
The opening of our second and final group show.

Heft will present more than 10 unique works that complete the triangulation of our greater gallery program, with this show focusing on algorthmic works, abstraction, and material experimentation.
